La Mamounia Afternoon Tea: A Full Review
I have a thing about afternoon tea. Maybe it is because of my love of desserts and variety, but everywhere we travel we always try to sit down at least once for afternoon tea. When I was researching afternoon tea in Marrakech I found out about the sumptuous La Mamounia afternoon tea and knew we had to try it!
La Mamounia Afternoon Tea Location
La Mamounia is a palace hotel located just outside the Jemaa el Fna in the heart of Marrakech. Most would agree it is Marrakech’s top hotel, frequented by the rich and famous (as well as the IG influencer crowd).
The hotel and its expansive grounds are absolutely stunning and worth a wander. However if you don’t have the funds to stay here, your next best bet is to book yourself in for an afternoon tea. Without a reservation you won’t be able to enter to explore the grounds.
La Mamounia afternoon tea is served at the hotel’s Le Menzeh Bar. Located in the Menzeh Pavillion, alongside La Mamounia’s gorgeous gardens, the terrace setting is so peaceful and beautiful. Even Winston Churchill, who used to frequent the hotel, described the gardens as “the loveliest spot in the world”.
In case of bad weather, the tea is served inside the bar instead.

La Mamounia Dress Code
Considering this is Marrakech’s most fancy and sophisticated hotel, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there is a dress code to match. La Mamounia describes their dress code as “elegant”, so expect to don some dressy clothes and shoes when you come for afternoon tea.

We heard of a number of people being turned away at the hotel entrance for not being dressed nicely enough. This worried us a bit but we didn’t have any issues when we arrived. Ryan wore dress pants, a button down dress shirt and dress shoes, while I wore a simple stretchy dress jazzed up with a necklace, and some dressy sandals.

La Mamounia Afternoon Tea Food Review
The afternoon tea at La Mamounia is unique as it is Moroccan-inspired. The treats are not served on the typical tiered tray as with other afternoon teas. Instead they are served on platters and the tea is served in a traditional Moroccan tea pot.
Our afternoon tea consisted of traditional mint tea served with Moroccan pastries, French macarons, and marshmallows. The macarons were very tasty and we loved the unique Arabic sweets.
Compared with other afternoon teas around the world the food was high quality but not plentiful. Normally I can fill up on afternoon tea, but I was not full after this one. Also, there were no savory items served – only sweets.

La Mamounia Afternoon Tea Service
Service at Le Menzeh Bar was good, but not super attentive. However, for just an afternoon tea, this is fine as you don’t require much service anyway.
How to book Afternoon Tea at La Mamounia
To book afternoon tea, contact Le Menzeh Bar via their website form. They do not seem to advertise afternoon tea on the website, but we were able to book it when we enquired via this form.
The hours for Le Menzeh Bar are 10am-7pm. We booked our tea time for 3:30pm. At the time of our booking, the cost was MAD 220/person (approximately USD $22).
Exploring La Mamounia Hotel
After you enjoy your afternoon tea, spend some time wandering the enchanting gardens.
You will wander through olive trees, past rows of perfectly lined orange and lemon trees, thousands of rose bushes, bougainvillea, cacti and palm trees. Strolling around here is indeed a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
Once you have finished in the gardens, head inside and admire the opulent Moroccan decor.
There are many fantastic photo opportunities within.
