This past year we’ve become huge fans of the Japanese reality show, Terrace House. We especially loved the Aloha State season filmed on Oahu since we recognized so many of the places on the show from when we used to live there.
So, this summer when we planned to visit family on Oahu, we knew we wanted to hit up as many locations as we could that were on Terrace House Aloha State!
If you are like us and are huge Terrace House fans, this Oahu itinerary is perfect for you! This 2 day Oahu itinerary can be added on or incorporated with our longer 5 Day Oahu Off the Beaten Path Itinerary or our Waikiki One Day Itinerary.
Terrace House Aloha State Itinerary
Day 1
Punchbowl Coffee
If you want to meet one of the cast members (who wouldn’t?!) then make your way to Eric’s Punchbowl Coffee food truck to start off your morning!
Eric de Mondonca was one of the original 6 cast members on Terrace House Aloha State. You may remember him spending his time on the show setting up his pop up store inside Unibazar.
While his pop up shop is now closed (he’s currently setting up a new one), he runs a food truck serving his delicious coffee and sandwiches! He is usually parked by the Cruise Ship docks or in front of Salt in Kakaako, but follow him on Instagram to check his exact location on any given day.
Cafe Lani
If you are still in the mood for some breakfast after your coffee, head over to Ala Moana Centre and grab a bite at Cafe Lani. This is the cafe where Taishi worked as a server and was featured a few times on Terrace House Aloha State. Taishi Tamaki was most well-known on the show for his famous phrase “finding a love worth dying for”.
Ala Moana Beach
After breakfast, head outside the mall and across the street to the beach. Ala Moana Beach was featured in the episode when Cheri and Eric go on an early morning surfercise date.
88 Tees
Next, head over to Waikiki in search of another cast member. While you likely won’t find Avian at the store, you will probably see her mom!
Avian Ku is another one of the original 6 cast members of Terrace House Aloha State. Her mom’s popular store, 88 Tees, was shown on some episodes of Terrace House. You will also find Avian’s swim line, Ila Swim, here at 88 Tees.
We enjoyed shopping there and couldn’t resist buying some of their super cute shirts! They had a HUGE guys’ selection and fairly large women’s selection of shirts. Avian’s mom was super nice and was excited when she found out we are fans of the show.
Waikiki
Time for some more beach time! Waikiki is probably one of the most famous beaches in the world and needs no introduction. It was featured in a number of Terrace House Aloha State episodes, such as the one when the house mates all go surfing and Naomi gets left out by the boys.
Here you can take surfing lessons, go on a catamaran ride, or just lay on the beach and people-watch.
Rainbow Drive In
This is one of our personal favorites so we were super excited to see it on Terrace House. Guy and Niki know what’s up!! They went on a date here at Rainbow Drive In and even ordered one of our favorites: the mix plate.
After some fun in the sun, treat yourself and dig into the delicious food here at Rainbows! Don’t forget to order a slush float to wash it down – they are delicious!

Sky Waikiki
You’ll probably be too full after Rainbows to eat anything else, but head up to Sky Waikiki for Happy Hour! This 19th floor rooftop restaurant/lounge/nightclub is the perfect place to take in the sunset.
Sky Waikiki was where Avian and Yuya Shibusawa go on a date, as well as Cheri and “the Russian”.
Day 2
Terrace House
Start the morning at the one and only Terrace House! It’s so cool seeing it in person after seeing it so many times on the show.
Scenic Drive
Today take the scenic route all the way to the North Shore. Stop along the way at any of the many beautiful beaches, such as Waimanalo. Waimanalo was the beach where Taishi and Chikako go on a date and Taishi hilariously starts working on his abs before revealing his beach body to her.
The Shack
Stop into The Shack in Kailua for some lunch! This is where Taishi and Niki go for burgers after their rock climbing date.
Giovanni’s ShrimpTruck
A trip to the North Shore is not complete without a stop at this famous shrimp truck! Giovanni’s is where the 6 original house mates stop for a bite to eat after their trip to the beach. Their shrimp is delicious, and I normally don’t even like shrimp!
Tip: Don’t forget to bring a Sharpie to sign your name on the truck 😉
Waimea Beach
This beach is famous for its big waves and is a popular spot to watch the pro-surfers. Waimea Bay Beach is where the 6 original Terrace House members went when Yusuke awkwardly stands around in his attempt to talk to Lauren.
Tantalus Lookout
After you’ve had enough of the beach (never!) head back into town to catch the sunset. Take the winding road up to Tantalus Lookout and be rewarded with the spectacular view over Honolulu.
Tantalus Lookout is where Taishi takes Chikako to confess his love to her and ask her to be his girlfriend. Awww. Romantic.
Banán
On your drive back down, stop in at Banán! This is the shop where Lauren Tsai worked for a quick minute before getting fired.
They are known for their banana-based, dairy-free soft serve. You can even get it in a papaya! Drool.

[…] The Perfect Oahu Itinerary for Terrace House Fans […]
What a cool and unique itinerary! Ala Moana is definitely my speed, not too crowded and a beautiful paradise. Also, I remember driving by Waimea beach when I was younger. We noticed all of the surfers and didn’t know why they all gathered at this beach in particular. Now I know!
Thanks Kylee! Yes, we love Ala Moana 🙂 It was always my go to spot to relax.
Haha ya! Waimea is very popular for surfing!
Can’t say I’ve ever heard of Terrace House, but Ala Moana Beach looks amazing! There is definitely plenty worth doing here both for fans of the show and people like me who avoid tv like the plague :).

Your photography is so nice! Hawaii is my dream destination, if I could live there, I would!
Aww, thank you Nadia! Yes, we were certainly lucky to live there! It is a pretty expensive place to live, though, so now we just enjoy going back to visit family 🙂
Great line-up! I’ve never heard of the show, but looks like they chose some pretty special locations for filming. What a fun way to discover a new place 🙂

I love Oahu so much! We went several years ago and enjoyed to the max out time there. Have to say the food was delicious. We found some locals eats and had the opportunity to try several Asian dishes. I want to go back and rent a car to drive around the island. I want to visit other islands too!
Yes, Oahu is so awesome! And the food is the best!! We love all the Asian food there, too. Renting a car is definitely a great way to get out and see the rest of the island.
I’ve never heard to Terrace House but this looks like the perfect itinerary for anyone! Living in SoCal, scenic drives are pretty much daily life and the one you mentioned looks just as beautiful. Banan looks like a great place for a treat, I love that its dairy free!
Thanks Maggie!! Yes, California also has so many nice scenic drives just like Oahu 🙂 Definitely try out Banan 😉
Wow Oahu looks gorgeous, hopefully, I’ll make it there one day. The suggestion about coffee and food are amazing! Thanks for the recommendations, and gorgeous pictures by the way 🙂

Oh, I just got started watching Terrace House so this was really fun to read! I can’t believe you can meet one of the actual cast by going to his coffee truck (fangirling so hard right now). Also, that view from Tantalus lookout is stunning.
haha Yay!! Finally someone who has watched the show! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the itinerary. Yes, I was sooo excited to actually get to meet Eric! I hope you get to go, too 🙂
I was totally wondering if you were gonna go to all the Terrace House spots on your trip! Looks like you had a ton of fun haha. When I went I visited 88 Tees too and saw Avian’s mom, lol
Haha of course!! Huge Terrace House addicts right here LOL.
Oh, yay, I’m glad you got to meet her too!
That North Shore shrimp truck was one of my best memories of Oahu, lol! So good! I have never heard of this show, I’ll have to check it out, just for the scenery!
Yes, so good, right?!
Haha, it is an addicting show!!
I haven’t been to Oahu yet but you’ve whetted my appetite, Louise! I’d love to spend a day at the Ala Moana Beach which seems perfect. How many days should I stay in Oahu?
Aw, I’m glad to hear that Agness! Ala Moana Beach is definitely a nice place to spend an afternoon 🙂
It really depends how much time and money you want to spend, because there is so much to do on the island! I would say ten days is a good amount of time.

My wife and I did the exact same trip last year. I would just add 53 by the sea for lunch.
It’s a restaurant where Taishi takes Chikako.
Amazing views of Waikiki.
Funny that we visited all the same locations.
If you guys need Vegas info hit me up.
Hey Neli,
That’s awesome that we visited all the same places! Thanks for adding 53 by the sea. We will have to add that to our list and check it out next time we are on Oahu!
And yes, thanks so much, we’ll keep that in mind when we head back to Vegas 🙂
Cheers
