How to get to Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam
By train
As mentioned above, the hotel is located across from Amsterdam Centraal Station, so the quickest and easiest way to get there is to take the train and walk a couple minutes over. From Schiphol Airport, the train only takes 15-20 minutes.
By taxi
A more expensive option is to take a taxi to the hotel. If you contact the Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam concierge ahead of time, they can arrange a meet and greet for you at the airport for €60.
By car
We don’t recommend using a car to get to the hotel as once you are there, the city is very walkable. Also, parking is hard to find and expensive. However if you do decide to come by car, you can easily use Google Maps for directions.
Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam Parking
If you do decide to drive, the hotel does not have parking on site. The closest parking is the Q-Park Amsterdam Centraal which is located just 230 metres away. The cheapest 24 hour rate for hotel guests is €27.50 if you book in advance online. Otherwise it costs €55 for 24 hours.
Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam History
As soon as you step out of Amsterdam Centraal Station, you will be struck by the impressive palatial facade of the Park Plaza Victoria Hotel right in front of you. The hotel originally opened in 1890 as the Victoria Hotel and today is a National Heritage Site. From the beginning, Victoria Hotel has aimed to wow guests, and was the first Amsterdam hotel to offer hydraulic elevators and electric lighting.
The hotel is internationally famous thanks to hosting many fashion shows over the years, with designers such as Christian Dior, Pierre Balmain and Pierre Cardin hosting shows at the hotel. There was even an award-winning movie made about the hotel, called A Noble Intention.
Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam Check In
The entrance to the hotel is through a grand revolving door. It’s then a few steps up to the lobby, with the concierge desk to the front, and reception desks to the left. Despite this being a historic hotel, you will notice once inside that the Park Plaza Victoria is very modern. We were actually surprised and found the hotel to be much nicer than we expected!
Check in was quite efficient. We arrived early and our room was not ready yet, so the concierge desk helped us store our luggage.
Our stay was during Sinterklaas, which is a traditional Dutch holiday, and the lobby was decorated beautifully with Christmas decor. The reception staff let us know that our daughter could leave her shoe and we could return in the morning to find a gift from Sinterklaas. Our daughter absolutely loved getting to participate in this Dutch tradition at the hotel!

Room Review: Executive Room with Iconic View
We opted for the Executive Room with Iconic View, which is one of the larger rooms featuring a beautiful view over the city of either the canals or Amsterdam Centraal Station. We found ourself in Room 138.
Bed
The Executive Room comes with a King bed plus a sofa bed. We opted for this room specifically as we were traveling with our daughter and needed an extra bed for her. She slept very comfortably on the sofa bed, which was larger and more comfortable than sofa beds at other hotels we’ve stayed at.
We also appreciated that upon entering the room, the staff had already set up the sofa bed for her and provided an extra set of toiletries, bath robe and slippers for her.
The king bed was very luxurious and spacious. I appreciated that next to the bed were electronic controls for the entire room, so we were able to control the lights, temperature and blinds from this panel.
Bathroom
We were impressed with the size of the bathroom – it was much larger than other European hotels we’ve stayed in. It was also very modern and clean.
While there is no tub, there is a large walk-in shower with rainfall shower head.
A nice array of complimentary toiletries are provided.
Underneath the sink, you will find a weigh scale.
And above the toilet, there is even a shoe horn provided!
There is a hair dryer provided but you will find it in the closet by the sitting area, not in the bathroom. Robes and slippers are provided on top of the beds.
Minibar
The minibar area has a nice selection of complimentary teas and coffee, and even some biscuits.
There is a Nespresso machine, kettle, mugs, glasses, ice bucket, and even a bottle opener.
Below are some (pricy) snacks and an assortment of drinks inside the fridge.
Sitting Area
The sitting area has a large, high back comfy chair, small table and a bench to place your luggage.
Inside the large closet, you will find the iron and ironing board, as well as the hair dryer.
Within the bottom drawer, you will find the safe.
In front of the king bed, you have a nice large work desk with chair. I loved the neat map design on the desk’s surface, as well as the complimentary historic postcard.
Above the desk is a large 49″ flatscreen TV, as well as some USB outlets.
View
The iconic Amsterdam view is a selling point of this room and we were not disappointed. Seeing the sun shining over the canals in the morning was a beautiful sight indeed. Our daughter loved sitting by the large windows and watching the action below.
One thing to note, however, is that due to the large windows and being right above busy Damrak, you will experience quite a bit of street noise. The windows don’t seem to be updated enough to block out all the noise, so if you are sensitive to noise, this may not be the room for you. It wasn’t an issue for us, and we had no issue sleeping with the sound of people and trams below, but I could see it being an issue for very light sleepers.
Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam Wifi
The hotel offers complimentary wifi throughout the hotel and we found it to be fast and reliable.
Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam Restaurants
Breakfast Buffet
The hotel does have a few restaurant options on-site. For breakfast, they do offer a breakfast buffet but unfortunately we did not get a chance to try it. However, based on the reviews we’ve read, it sounds very good!
Illy Cafe
Your other option is the illy Cafe located on the street level. The cafe opens daily at 8:30am-5pm and serves your typical cafe options if you prefer a lighter breakfast.
Carstens Cafe
For lunch, you can check out Carstens Cafe which offers some Dutch classics with a twist. Prices are pretty reasonable, for example French Toast is €8 and a burger is €13, which is their most expensive main. The menu offers all-day dining. Hours of opening are 11:00am-8:00pm, Thursday to Sunday only.
Carstens Brasserie
For dinner, you can check out Carstens Brasserie which offers delicious sustainable and seasonal Dutch ingredients. We didn’t get a chance to dine here, but we walked past and it looked very good. Prices are about average, with mains from €25 to €28. The menu changes often – check the current offerings here. Hours are 6:00pm-9:30pm, Thursday to Sunday only.
Vic’s Bar
If you’d like to head out for some drinks, Vic’s Bar is a classy option within the Park Plaza Victoria Hotel. They offer an international cocktail menu and seasonal bites. The bar is open every day at 12pm until midnight, except for Friday and Saturday when they close at 1:00am.
Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam Pool
If you are looking for a hotel with a pool in Amsterdam, you’re in luck! The Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam hotel has an indoor pool and it’s apparently the largest one in the city centre of Amsterdam. Don’t expect anything huge, but it is a decent size to enjoy.
Guests can enjoy the pool from 7am-10pm daily. In addition to the pool, there is also a Finnish sauna and decent fitness centre.
Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam Luggage Storage
If you arrive early, or are departing on a later flight and need somewhere to leave your luggage, the hotel concierge is able to help. There is a secure luggage storage room located to the left of the concierge desks. You will be given a luggage tag which you’ll need to present to the concierge when you return to collect your bags.

Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam Verdict
We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. It was much nicer than expected, and we particularly loved the decor and how spacious our room was. However the windows were not insulated that well so the room was a bit noisy from the street sounds below. Also, the overall decor was a bit dark in the common areas, which we found gave off a modern and classy vibe. However we realize this might not be for everyone. The elevators were also very tiny and sometimes slow.
The location can’t be beat, however, and we loved the historic facade and grand architecture of the hotel. Service was nice and efficient. The room was very clean, modern and comfortable, with all the amenities we needed. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it as a great base to explore Amsterdam!
