St. Regis Cairo Hotel Review
If you’ve always wanted to stay at a St. Regis but couldn’t bring yourself to spend that much on a hotel, here is your chance to get a taste of it without the hefty price tag to match!
While researching hotels for our recent layover in Cairo, we found that hotel rates were much more affordable than in other countries we’ve been traveling to. When we saw how inexpensive the nightly rate was at the St. Regis Cairo (relative to St. Regis hotels elsewhere in the world) we couldn’t help booking it for a taste of affordable luxury.
Location
The St. Regis Cairo is located downtown in the heart of the city’s business district. Its location right on the Nile provides compelling views over the river and Old Cairo.
Depending on your noise tolerance, the area around the hotel is walkable. We enjoyed an evening walk, despite all the traffic noise, as it gave us a taste of bustling Cairo. Right in front of the hotel is the Nile Corniche where you can enjoy an evening sunset stroll, stopping at one of the many coffee shops and vendors along the way. You are also walking distance to Arkadia Mall and other small shops and restaurants.
If walking is not for you, Ubers are plentiful and inexpensive to take you to any of the nearby attractions such as the Egyptian Museum, Tahrir Square, Cairo Tower and the Cairo Opera House, to name a few.

How to get to St. Regis Cairo
From Cairo International Airport:
The St. Regis Cairo is located 24km from the airport. While the distance is not that far, traffic can be horrendous depending on the time of day so driving times can vary considerably. Always give yourself plenty of extra time to factor in traffic.
If you are arriving late at night or early in the morning, traffic won’t be too bad and it should only take you around 30-35 minutes to get to the hotel. However if you are arriving mid-day, plan for an hour or more.
By shuttle: The most hassle-free way is to pre-book a private shuttle to pick you up at the airport. You can book online here. Prices are between 400-500 EGP.
By taxi: Taxis are plentiful as soon as you walk outside of the terminal. The problem we experienced was that we had to haggle a lot over the price. Next time we would probably opt for a pre-arranged shuttle instead.
By Uber: While it is possible to use Uber from the airport, we were unsuccessful at doing so. The drivers can only pick up from one of the lower parking lots and it was extremely difficult to find the drivers in the busy lots. We kept having drivers cancel on us. You can try your luck with it as it is cheaper than the taxis and shuttles, but it may not be worth the hassle.
Taking Uber to the airport is no issue, on the other hand, and is the recommended option from the St. Regis Cairo. Our Uber ride to the airport only cost 154 EGP.
Parking
Parking is available on-site at a cost of $15/day.
Checking In
Pulling up to the hotel from the street, you will first be greeted by a guard at the gate before being let through. After entering through the hotel doors, you will then have to put your luggage and personal items through a scanner, much like airport security.
After security, continue down the hallway to the elevator to take you up to the fifth floor Main Lobby.
Stepping out of the elevator, you will be in awe of your beautiful surroundings. This is truly a stunning hotel. Continue towards the reception desks where you will complete the check-in process.
The staff are very professional, kind and efficient. After completing check-in formalities, we were introduced to our butler, Mariam. She accompanied us to our room and explained her services. More on this below.

Bonvoy Elite Status Recognition
During check-in, we were thanked for our loyalty once they saw we are Platinum Elite members. Due to our Platinum status, we were given our choices for our welcome amenity, and of course we chose the free breakfast. It was one of the best hotel breakfasts we’ve ever had! More on that later 🙂
We also discovered we were upgraded to a very nice room! Originally we were booked into the hotel’s lowest category room, a Superior Room with a Historic Cairo View. However, they kindly upgraded us to an Astor Room with a Nile View, which is two categories higher!
Inside the room, they also left us some delectable sweet treats – high quality pastries and local Egyptian treats, along with a large plate of fresh fruit.
Butler Service
Our butler, Mariam, was lovely and very personable. She showed us around our room and all its features, and explained she was at our service at any time, should we need her.
Mariam let us know she could unpack our bags, press up to two garments per day, bring newspapers, coffee or tea, and help make arrangements for anything we needed.
After requesting coffee, she brought up a tray with a fresh pot of it and served us in our room.
Before departing, she left her card with us and let us know we could send her a message on WhatsApp at any time, or call or e-mail. I ended up messaging her late at night to see if she could print our boarding passes for us. I simply sent her the file and she printed them out, placed them in a nice envelope, and delivered it to our room right away!

Room Review: Astor Room with Nile View
We were assigned Room 925, which is a 495 sq.ft. Astor Room on the ninth floor with a lovely view over the Nile River. It was exquisitely decorated and a peaceful retreat from the chaotic city traffic outside.
Entry
Upon entering the room, you are greeted with an entryway lined with closets to your right, and the bathroom to your left.
Opening the rich wooden closet doors, you will find a delightful pop of color within. We absolutely loved the depiction of luscious greenery with Lotus flowers and birds. The inside of the doors are mirrored.
Within the first closet you will find the ironing board, iron, a pair of nice St. Regis branded slippers, and nice quality wooden and satin hangers. The wardrobe was large enough to hang our coats, put away our shoes and neatly tuck away our luggage.
Inside the next closet is the safe, laundry bags and more hanging space.
Bathroom
The bathroom is very spacious and relaxing. To the right, you have a large soaker tub with a stunning hand-crafted mosaic mural beside it. Such a perfect place to unwind. There is even a flatscreen TV at the foot of the tub if you wish to soak and catch up on a show.
A wooden bathtub tray sits atop the bathtub, providing a bar of soap, loofah and washcloth.
On the left side of the bathroom is a very large walk-in shower with rainfall showerhead, again lined with beautiful tile work. Inside you will find individual shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided.
Next to the shower is a separate toilet room, complete with a stand-alone bidet.
The vanity provides ample counter space, complete with his and her sinks. Within the center cabinet you will find the hair dryer. Below the vanity are extra towels and a weigh scale. Beneath your feet are lovely plush bathmats – a very nice touch.
Additional toiletries are provided on the counter, such as mouthwash, dental kit, shave kit, body lotion, comb, shower cap, and sewing kit.
Bed
The room features the signature St. Regis king-sized bed. It is absolutely heavenly to sink into at the end of a long day. Considering how noisy the streets are with honking outside, we thankfully could not hear any of it within the room and slept very soundly.
Flanking the bed are some lovely nightstands with large lamps. A phone, stationary and water are on one side, and tissues and alarm clock radio on the other. At the foot of the bed are two plush ottomans.
In front of the bed is the flatscreen TV, and to its right, the awesome lighted makeup mirror. This mirror was a highlight for me! With its comfy leather ottoman, side tables and electrical outlet, it was the perfect spot to sit, plug in my hair straightener to style my hair, and do my make up. Definitely a nice, luxurious touch.
Sitting Area
The Astor Room features a nice sitting area complete with a loveseat and large desk. We enjoyed sitting on the comfy sofa while enjoying coffee and treats.
I loved that the desk was fully stocked with a variety of stationary and office supplies: some lovely postcards, stapler, highlighter, staple remover, staples, eraser and pencil sharpener!
Minibar
Next to the desk area is the minibar and coffee station. A nice Nespresso machine sits atop the cabinet along with a kettle, ice bucket, bottled water, and bottle opener.
Beneath it you will find more cups and mugs, coffee pods, a variety of teas, sugar and Coffeemate creamer. There are also packets of instant Nescafe if for some reason you prefer those over the pods.
Some snacks, such as chips, chocolates and mixed nuts, are available for purchase at a surprisingly reasonable price. For example, the chips were 50 EGP (less than $2 USD) and chocolate 90 EGP (less than $3 USD).
Inside the fridge were some Heineken (110 EGP/$3.60 USD), juice (65 EGP/$2.10 USD), and sodas (65 EGP/$2.10 USD). We found these minibar prices to be quite good compared to other resorts we’ve stayed at.
Electrical Outlets
We greatly appreciated that many of the electrical outlets in the room were universal so we did not need to use any adapters to plug in our electronics! There were also USB plugs as well.
View
The room had floor to ceiling windows with a door leading out to the small balcony. We had timeless views over the Nile, which were extra stunning during sunset. My only slight complaint is that the balcony only had two basic chairs – I wish they were loungers.
From the balcony you also have a view of the outdoor pool deck down below. Not really a plus for us, but perhaps it could be for others if you wish to watch over family members at the pool from the comfort of your room.
Turn Down Service
The hotel provides evening turn down service which is always a nice touch when returning to the room.
After our evening walk, we returned to the room to find the curtains drawn, lights turned down, slippers laid out next to either side of the bed, and a surprise anniversary cake on the table!
Restaurants
The hotel offers a wide range of dining options with its seven restaurants and bars:
- La Zisa (Italian restaurant)
- J&G Steakhouse (American restaurant)
- Tianma (Asian restaurant)
- Envy (eclectic lounge)
- The St. Regis Bar and The Water Garden (International bar)
- Sirocco (Mediterranean poolside restaurant and bar)
- Il Cafe Bar (24 hour cafe and bar)
While we regretfully did not get to check out all of them, we did get to fully enjoy a buffet breakfast at La Zisa, and admired the gorgeous St. Regis Bar and Water Garden.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the hotel’s La Zisa restaurant. We loved the restaurant’s airy atmosphere, with its high ceilings and exclusive views over the Nile.
The buffet offers an expansive array of options and is one of the best breakfast buffets we’ve ever had! We were thoroughly impressed with the wide selection of dishes from Western to Asian to local specialties.
Not only was everything beautifully presented, the food was high quality and extremely delicious! The bakery station was my favourite part. Everything tasted so fresh and fluffy – not stale, tasteless pastries that you often find in other buffets. There were warm, gooey cinnamon rolls, perfectly flaky almond croissants, an enticing donut board, and yummy Egyptian omali.
I also loved the foul station. Fill up a bowl with the piping hot foul and load it up with the wide selection of toppings. Yum!
We didn’t get many pictures as we were too busy loading up our plates. But check out our video tour below to see all the food that was on offer!
The best part? This breakfast was completely free thanks to our Platinum Elite Status. Although even if it wasn’t free, I wouldn’t hesitate to pay out of pocket for this breakfast buffet!
If you prefer to take breakfast in your room, you of course can get room service. Prices were pretty decent.
Facilities
Pool
If you are seeking a refreshing dip, the hotel offers both indoor and outdoor pools, as well as a children’s pool and whirlpool.
The indoor pool is a relaxing reprieve from Cairo’s sweltering heat. With its vaulted ceilings, beautiful mosaics, and Nile views, the indoor pool area is a truly luxurious setting.
For those preferring an outdoor setting, the outdoor pool does not disappoint. Surrounded by plush lounge chairs and overlooking the magical Nile, the outdoor pool desk is a lovely spot to wind down a long day. These is also a dedicated pool for the kids.
Both the indoor and outdoor pools are heated and have a lifeguard on duty. Towels are provided.
Indoor Pool Hours: 6:00am-10:00pm

If you’re traveling with kids, check out the hotel’s Amulet Children’s Club. There are a variety of activities, including Foosball, PlayStation, and crafts. And if you need a babysitter, that can be arranged too!
Library

Grand Ballroom
The hotel has a variety of venues for meetings and events. Most striking of all is the Crystal Hall which greets you as you pull up to the hotel. It features an enormous chandelier surrounded by beautiful curved staircases. How gorgeous would it be to have a wedding here?!

Final Thoughts
This was our second stay at a St. Regis property and it certainly lived up to its name! It was one of the most luxurious hotels we’ve ever stayed at and ranks up there in our top five favourite places we’ve ever stayed. We definitely wish we had stayed more than one night and won’t hesitate to stay here again the next time we visit Cairo.
The property is very modern and clean, Butler service was outstanding, Bonvoy Elite recognition was very good, food was excellent and the location was ideal. What’s even better is that the hotel is extremely good value for a 5 star hotel! A luxurious stay here cost us about the same as we paid for a mid-range hotel in Vancouver, Canada or Seattle, USA.
