The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur Review
Ever since our first stay at a St. Regis in Dubai, we’ve been hooked on this luxurious hotel brand. When we saw how affordable the rates were at the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur, we were blown away!
We thought the St. Regis Cairo was incredible value for our money, but the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur may just top that in our books now! If you’d like to experience 5-star luxury at a fraction of the price, here is your chance.
Location
The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur is conveniently located adjacent to KL Sentral train station, Malaysia’s largest transit hub. From here, you can easily catch the KLIA Ekspres train direct to the airport. Being short on time, the ability to have easy access to the airport is what really sold us on this hotel.
Many people say that the area around the hotel is not very walkable, but we enjoyed walking around the area just fine! We were able to walk through the buildings connected to the hotel, through the train station and to NU Sentral mall. From NU Sentral mall, we enjoyed exploring Little India all on foot.
The hotel’s location is perfect if you love street food as you can walk over to Little India in just 15 minutes.

How to get to The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur
The hotel is located in the heart of the city, which is about 58 km from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Considering the traffic in Kuala Lumpur, the best option is taking the train to KL Sentral.
By train
The KLIA Ekspres train is an easy and efficient way to get from the airport to the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur. It leaves every 20 minutes and takes only 33 minutes to KL Sentral station.
We booked our tickets on the Klook app before we left Singapore so that we had everything ready when we landed. Roundtrip tickets cost only RM89 (about $20 USD) and you get a QR code that you just scan directly on the turnstiles at the train station. So simple!
Once at KL Sentral station, just follow the overhead signs to the St. Regis. The signs will take you through a series of walkways and buildings, and you’ll arrive at the hotel in 10 minutes. With luggage, it does feel like a bit of a trek, but it’s all covered and you don’t need to go out onto the road.
By hotel shuttle
If you’d prefer to skip the walk, the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur offers a complimentary shuttle to and from KL Sentral. The ride takes only 5 minutes.
Hours: 8am-8pm, every 30 minutes at :15 and :45 from KL Sentral, and :00 and :30 from the St. Regis hotel
You may also arrange for a hotel shuttle to pick you up directly from the airport. The cost is RM669.60 (about $155 USD) roundtrip.
By Taxi/Rideshare
Grab is Malaysia’s version of Uber and we found fares to be very economical. You can take a Grab taxi from the airport directly to the hotel for about $20 USD one-way. If you are traveling as a family or group, this option may be preferable for you. Just note that traffic can be unpredictable so the journey will definitely take longer than the train.
Parking
If you’ve opted to rent a car and drive yourself, you can self-park at the hotel for RM20 per day, or valet for RM45.
Note that when you arrive at the hotel, security will search your car before letting you through the gate.
Booking The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur
As mentioned above, nightly rates for The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur are very affordable compared to luxury hotels in other large cities around the world. While we used our Marriott points for this stay, I would not hesitate to pay the cash rate.
You can search your dates here on Booking.com for the cheapest rates available for the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur.
When not booking direct, we like to book through Booking.com as the rates are usually very competitive AND they offer free cancellation with no prepayment required. For our dates, prices started at around US$220/night including taxes.
If you are a Marriott Bonvoy member, this is an excellent hotel to use your points or 35k Free Night Awards on. We were able to book our room for only 33,000 points/night!

Arrival and Check-In
Prior to our arrival at the hotel, we received e-mails from the Director of Rooms as well as the Butler team. They let us know of the services available to us and asked if we had any special requests. We let them know our early arrival time and that we were celebrating our anniversary.
From KL Sentral, it took us less than 10 minutes to walk to the hotel via the covered walkways. We were impressed with how grand the hotel looked when we arrived. As soon as we entered, we were invited to sit down at the reception desks.
It was only 1:15pm so they let us know that our room was unfortunately not ready yet. They invited us to enjoy the hotel in the meantime and offered to store our luggage.
We were eager to go out and explore the local area instead so the friendly front desk staff took down my phone number and said she’d call when the room was ready.
After our late lunch, we still hadn’t received a call but decided to head back to the hotel as it was already past 3pm, the standard check-in time. We arrived back at the lobby around 3:20pm and the front desk staff asked how they could help us. I explained that we had already checked in and stored our luggage but were waiting for our room to be ready.
Turns out, the room was ready now and they handed us our keys and luggage. I’m not sure why they hadn’t called to inform us like they said they would, but oh well. To be honest, the front desk staff didn’t seem quite as well-trained as other luxury hotels we’ve been to, but they were at least very friendly.
- Standard Check-In Time: 3:00pm
- Standard Check-out Time: 12:00pm
Bonvoy Elite Status Recognition
With our Platinum Elite status, we received an amazing upgrade to the St. Regis Suite. We’ve had some pretty nice upgrades in the past, but this one definitely takes the cake! Our original booking was for the entry-level King room with city view, but we got upgraded a few categories higher!
Not only that, but when we entered the suite, we found that they had decorated the bedroom with balloons and flower petals for our 12th anniversary. They also left us an anniversary cake with a card and a box of hand-crafted chocolates.
If you are looking for a hotel that really recognizes and rewards Bonvoy elite status, this is the hotel for you!

Room Review: The St. Regis Suite
As mentioned, we were originally booked into a King Guest Room with City View, so we were super grateful to learn that we were upgraded to a suite. However, we didn’t realize just how significant of an upgrade it was until we approached our suite, Room 1515.
Entry
Our room was located at the very end of the hallway on the 15th floor. As we approached, we noticed a set of open double doors with our room number, and a door bell.
Continuing past the double doors, we found another door with our room number on it.
Upon entering the suite, we found ourselves in a spacious entryway with a bathroom to our right and an expansive living area in front of us. We were blown away!
Living Room
The spacious living room featured a large sofa plus two armchairs and a lovely coffee table. There was a medium-sized TV on the wall.
There were two walls of floor to ceiling windows offering the most magnificent city views. I loved all the light they let in.
Minibar
Next to the living room was a large chest containing all the minibar items.
There was a large array of snacks and drinks but they were very pricey.
Thankfully, bottled water, coffee and tea are complimentary. There was a kettle and pod-style coffee maker, but I was a bit disappointed it wasn’t a Nespresso machine.
Also, the counter and tray looked like they hadn’t been cleaned… and some items hadn’t been replenished. I could not find any spoons.
Next to the minibar was a round dining table with four leather chairs.
Work Area
On the other side of the large living area was a dedicated work space. There was a nice large desk with two chairs, a lamp, phone, and tons of shelf space adorned with some nice books.
Bedroom
From the living room, we passed through the double doors into the beautiful bedroom.
The king bed was very inviting and comfy. We were pleasantly surprised that we could even order any type of pillow we wanted from the “pillow menu”. How luxurious!
At the foot of the bed, there was another TV, and by the window, another sitting area.
On the bedside table, there was a panel of controls for the lighting and curtains. I was stoked that they had universal wall outlets and wireless phone charging.
Walk-In Closet
Across the bed were some mirrored folding doors that led to the most amazing walk-in wardrobe ever! We’ve stayed at other hotels with walk-in wardrobes before, but never one as stunning and large as this!
There was a lovely vanity with large lighted mirror and velvet chair.
I felt so fancy getting ready in there. It was the perfect size to spread out and do my makeup and my hair.
I loved that there was an electrical outlet conveniently right there so I could plug in my hair straightener. Inside one of the drawers was a hair dryer.
There was even a jewellery box on top of the vanity! That was a first for me – loved that detail.
There were robes and slippers provided, satin hangers and pant hangers, and even a garment rack perfect for steaming clothes!
I need a closet like this at home!
Massage Room
Once we got over the excitement of the walk-in closet, we continued on and found another room – a massage room!
We couldn’t believe it. This was another first for us! If only we had more time (and money…) to request an in-room massage…
Master Bathroom
Finally, we made it to the master bathroom, and wow…. we were blown away AGAIN. This has got to be one of the most impressive bathrooms we’ve ever had in a hotel.
We had just spent a night at the Ritz-Carlton Millenia, Singapore and I thought that bathtub was the most IG-worthy, but now I think this one tops it.
This tub, with these floor-to-ceiling views – wow. And they’ve even put a TV in-front of the tub! I loved that they provided bath salts, a loofah and soap as well.
Even the shower was amazing with the huge rainfall showerhead.
Moving back into the beautiful marble bathroom, we have his and her sinks.
On the counter, there was a chest with every toiletry and amenity we could need. This is something I really value in a hotel and something I miss now that many hotels have moved away from individual toiletries.
The toilet was enclosed in its own marble room.
It was not just any toilet – it was a fancy Toto bidet toilet and the lid opened as soon as we approached! This definitely freaked me out in the middle of the night when I was half asleep, though, lol.
View
We loved the floor-to-ceiling windows. The city views were spectacular no matter which room we were in.
Even the nighttime views were gorgeous with the city all lit up.
Restaurants
The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur offers a number of enticing dining options with its seven restaurants and bars:
- The Brasserie (Michelin-selected Western and Malaysian restaurant)
- The Drawing Room (home to the St. Regis afternoon tea)
- Astor Bar (international wine and whisky bar)
- Crystal (casual Asian-Fusion rooftop restaurant)
- Taka (Japanese)
- Ushi (Japanese)
- Tenshin (Japanese)
Since we were only in Kuala Lumpur for one night, we chose to grab some local food while we were out exploring so we didn’t get to try any of the dinner options at the hotel.
We also regretfully missed out on the afternoon tea. The Drawing Room looked so lovely, though.
Breakfast Buffet at The Brasserie
Thanks to our Platinum Elite Bonvoy status, we received complimentary breakfast at The Brasserie. We were on a tight schedule to be able to catch our flight to Langkawi, but there was no way we were going to miss this amazing spread!
St. Regis buffet breakfasts never disappoint, and this one was no exception! The number of options and stations was extensive. We only had 30 minutes to eat, but tried as many items as we could!
The buffet began with cereals, breads and pastries. I was impressed that they also had non-dairy milks on offer, such as almond milk and oat milk. They even had the fresh honeycomb out. There were lots of fresh juices to choose from.
I loved all the Asian options, like dim sum and nasi lemak. When I saw they had made-to-order noodles, I obviously had to try that. There were, of course, Western options as well: bacon, sausage, made-to-order eggs.
Everything looked so delicious – we really wished we had more time to enjoy it all! Check out our hotel video tour below to see the full breakfast buffet spread.
Facilities
Pool
The hotel features a lovely outdoor rooftop pool on the 6th floor.
When you step out onto the pool deck, you’ll actually see two pools, but the one on the left is for the St. Regis Residences.
The hotel pool is the one on the right.
In the evening, the pool even has a giant TV screen that pops up to play shows.
Hours: 7:00am-7:00pm daily
Gym
The athletic club is modern and spacious, with lots of windows looking out at the city views.
You’ll find a number of treadmills, ellipticals, weight machines and free weights.
Hours: 24/7
Spa
If you’re looking for some extra relaxation, head to the hotel’s Iridium Spa. We didn’t have time to try it out ourselves, but the prices looked to be more reasonable than other hotels of the same caliber.
Kids Club
If you’re traveling with kids, you’ll be pleased to know that there is a pretty nice kids club available here at the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur! We didn’t have our daughter with us on this trip, but we’d love to come back for a visit with her!
Nearby Attractions
The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur is just a short walk or Grab ride away from many of the city’s attractions, such as:
- The National Museum of Malaysia (260m)
- National Mosque of Malaysia (850m)
- Perdana Botanical Garden (1km)
- Little India (2km)
- Thean Hou Temple (3.2km)
- Petronas Twin Towers (4.2km)

Final Thoughts
We’d say the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur is one of the best hotels to experience 5-star luxury at a fraction of the price. The hotel is gorgeous, food is delicious, and the rooms are massive with lots of luxurious touches. We loved the convenient location as well.
Our only small complaints are that the service didn’t feel as professional as other luxury hotels we’ve visited and the room wasn’t perfectly clean (minor stains on the carpet and a dirty tray left at the minibar).
However, we can overlook these small misses, and we’d definitely return to this hotel for another (longer) stay!
