Overview
There are so many beautiful and luxurious hotels in Muscat which definitely makes it hard to decide where to stay. We ultimately went with the W due to its location, as it wasn’t too far of a drive from many of the Muscat attractions we wanted to visit.
While we are Marriott loyalists, this was actually our first stay ever at a W Hotel. It looked like the ideal choice to start our Oman itinerary, and to make things even better, we were kindly upgraded to a Fantastic Suite!
Location
The hotel is located right along Qurum Beach in an upbeat area, just east of Muscat’s city centre. There are several restaurants and cafes nearby, as well as other upmarket hotels. Right across the street is the gorgeous Royal Opera House.
It’s a great location if you want to walk along the beach and stroll to some fun eateries nearby (including a Starbucks, for any Starbucks addicts out there haha).
You’re also just off the main highway with easy access to the city centre, Muttrah Souk, the airport, and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.
W Muscat Address: Al Kharjiya Street, 103, Shatti Al Qurum, Muscat, Oman
How to get to W Muscat
From Muscat International Airport: The hotel is located 23 kilometres away. It’s a pretty straightforward drive along the main highway to the hotel and will take you about 23 minutes.
We used Google Maps for directions and were able to find our way easily. Taxis are also readily available at the airport if you choose not to rent a car.

Parking
Complimentary valet parking is available.
If you prefer to self-park, there is ample complimentary parking available on-site, both covered and uncovered.
Check-in
As we approached the hotel’s main entrance, we were struck by how simple yet luxurious it was.
Upon entering through the front doors, the lobby immediately felt very upbeat and trendy. The decor is quite unique and different from other Marriott hotels we’ve stayed at.
We were greeted by a doorman who took our luggage and ushered us to the check-in desks.
The man who checked us in was extremely friendly and upbeat, excited to welcome us to the hotel and Muscat.
Check-in Time: 3:00 pm
Check-out Time: 12:00 pm
Bonvoy Elite Status Recognition
We are Platinum Elite members and recognition was very good at this hotel.
At check-in, we were thanked for our loyalty, informed of our free buffet breakfast at the hotel’s Harvest restaurant, and given a voucher for two free drinks in the Living Room Bar.
We had booked the lowest category room, a Wonderful Room, and were upgraded to a Fantastic Suite, which was a lovely surprise.
Furthermore, upon entering the room, we were greeted with a fully decorated room filled with balloons. We had mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary so this was a nice touch.
They also surprised us with a cake AND a tier full of delicious treats. Wow!
Hotel Rooms
The hotel boasts 279 luxury rooms and suites.
Room types include:
- Wonderful Room
- Spectacular Room
- Fabulous Room
- Fantastic Suite
- Marvelous Suite
- Wow Suite
- Extreme Wow Suite
Room Review: Fantastic Suite
We were assigned Room 418, which was a 694 sq. ft. Fantastic Suite on the 4th floor with a sea view.
As we made our way to our room, we noticed the hallways were dimly lit, giving off modern, trendy vibes.
Entry
Upon entering the room, we were greeted with a large full-length mirror to our left and the sitting area in front of us.
Sitting Area
The sitting area had a total of six seats centred around a small table. This is where we sat and enjoyed our treats.
Minibar
Next to the sitting area is the large minibar.
Behind one of the doors, you will find a mini fridge complete with sparkling water, sodas and alcohol.
Another door opens up to drawers of glassware, mugs, teas, a kettle, an ice bucket, and a Nespresso machine.
Yet another door opens up to more alcohol, overpriced snacks, and some unique items like baseball caps and toys.
On top of the minibar, there is complimentary bottled water (yay!) and a cocktail shaker.
Bedroom
Behind the sitting area, separated by a large flat-screen TV, you will find the bedroom area.
The room features a large, comfy king-sized bed flanked on both sides by a nightstand, lamp, cordless phone, light controls, USB chargers, and one alarm clock with a wireless charger.
Work Station
At the foot of the bed is a large desk with a swivel chair.
Atop the desk is yet another phone, lamp, USB ports, HDMI port, and a universal wall socket.
Bathroom
Next to the bedroom area is the impressive marble bathroom. The decor was quite unlike any other hotel bathroom we’ve ever seen. Very modern, yet still had some Omani touches, such as the mirror.
The bathroom featured an oversized round bathtub which was quite fun.
On the right side, hidden behind the first door, is a large walk-in shower with a rainfall showerhead.
Hidden behind the next door is the toilet room, with yet another phone.
The toiletries provided on the bathroom counter and in the shower were quite nice and good quality.
I really appreciate little touches like this, since so many Marriott hotels no longer even provide individual toiletries.
Walk-in Closet
To the left of the bathroom is the lovely walk-in closet. I absolutely loved it. There was a lighted vanity table, perfect for doing my make-up and hair.
Hanging in the closet were two plush robes and slippers.
We appreciated the ample space to store our suitcases and hang up our clothes on the good quality hangers that were provided.
Balcony
The suite has a good-sized balcony with views of the sea.
We enjoyed sitting out here while sipping on our coffees.
Room Service
While we did not order room service ourselves, we did check out the menus and take photos to share here so you have an idea of what’s offered and the prices. Just remember the prices are in Omani Rials, NOT dollars.
Pet Policy
Two pets are allowed with a maximum weight of 18kg. The fee is 10 OMR per night.
Restaurants
The hotel offers a number of impressive restaurants and bars.
- Siddharta Lounge by Buddha-Bar (Mediterranean)
- Ba Ban (Chinese)
- Char (Grill)
- Harvest (International)
- Living Room (Bar)
- Wet Deck (International)
The ambience and offerings at the various restaurants looked excellent, but the only one we had time to try out was Harvest for our buffet breakfast.
Breakfast Buffet
Breakfast is served buffet-style at the hotel’s Harvest restaurant, located on the bottom floor.
The choices were plentiful, with something to please everyone. I especially enjoyed the fresh fruits and juices.
We chose to dine outdoors by the pool. There was plenty of seating inside as well, although it was more crowded.
Tip: If sitting outdoors, don’t leave your food unattended as birds will steal your food. Happened to me and the table next to us!
Buffet Breakfast Hours: 6:30 am-11:00 am
Facilities
Pool
The pool at W Muscat is massive and a highlight for many. While we were in Muscat to enjoy the local sights and not sit by the pool, we couldn’t help ourselves from lounging around for a few hours. It was just too inviting.
It was quite a busy and lively place, but due to its large size, we didn’t feel too crowded. What I appreciated most was that there was sufficient seating with ample lounge chairs. The pool reminded us of Las Vegas hotels, but unlike in Vegas, we could actually get a lounge chair and it was FREE of charge.
A live DJ was spinning fun music, but it wasn’t overly loud. There were plenty of families with kids enjoying the pool, but again, it wasn’t obnoxious.
We loved that the pool staff came around offering complimentary treats, such as cold water and popsicles to cool us down.
I’ve always wanted to float around on a gigantic flamingo floatie, and luckily for me, they had all kinds of large floaties here!
Beach
When you tire of the pool, or if you just want a more chill environment, exit the gate from the pool and walk onto the sandy beach.
There are no hotel loungers out here as the beach is public, but it’s a lovely place for a stroll. We saw many locals enjoying the beach and taking dips in the water.
Away Spa
If you’re looking to be pampered, the W Muscat has a luxurious spa with 10 treatment rooms, experiential showers, and a hammam. Treat yourself to a detox treatment, facial, couples massage, get your nails done, or even get a wax.
You can check out the full spa menu on their website and reserve an appointment.
Away Spa Hours: 7:00 am-10:00 pm Daily
Gym
While we did not have time to use it, the hotel does have a well-equipped gym, complete with a sea view.
You’ll find all your gym essentials, such as treadmills and other cardio equipment, free weights, and weight machines.
And if you’re into tennis, there’s even an outdoor tennis court!
Nearby Attractions
The W Muscat is a short walk or drive away from many of Muscat’s attractions, such as:

- Oman Avenues Mall (8km)
- Mall of Oman (10km)

Final Thoughts
As mentioned, this was our first time ever staying at a W hotel, and we have to say we were quite pleased! The hotel was modern, and even a bit quirky, but we loved it since it was something fun and different from what we’re used to.
Bonvoy Elite status recognition was excellent here and we appreciated the suite upgrade and anniversary treats. Our free breakfast was amazing as well.
The hotel itself is in excellent condition, our room was perfectly clean, and all the staff we encountered were very nice.
We especially loved the pool and wish we had more time to enjoy it.
If we found ourselves back in Muscat, we would definitely stay here again and make it a longer stay!
Booking
You can search your dates here on Booking.com for the cheapest rates available for the W Muscat.
If you are a Marriott Bonvoy member, you can use your points or Free Night Awards here. Rooms start at around 35,000 points/night, which would make excellent use of a Free Night Award!
We had initially booked our room for 35,000 points. Upon checking back, the points price had gone down to 29,000 points so we were able to get it for even cheaper!
Cash prices usually start around $300 USD.
